San Diego Marine Generator Install

The generator needed some love before it would run. The waterpump was in dire need of a rebuild, impeller badly worn, cover plate grooved, and shaft pitted. The shaft remains, hoping it won't leak, as replacing it would have held us up a day or two and it was time to get it in. New oil pressure sender installed, replacing the old and bend one, the threads needed chasing with a tap. Coolant sender installed where before there was a pipe plug, old, damaged and worn hoses replaces, new belt, oil change, coolant change and the missing fuel pump replaced. We had to fashion a new cover plate out of some diamond plate that I had at the shop, as a new one would have taken 10 weeks to have built and shipped from Onan. The "rebuilt" Onan generator bought on Ebay was now ready to run, and install. With the remote control harness wired up according to a shematic and the sound shield finally "correct, we craned it in. It took three "hops" to get it in, then quiote a few hours of pushing and shoving to get it in place. In the end. it took a huge pile of timber, a crane, an A frame with a trolley on an I beam and the brains and brawn of four men, experianced yacht techs, to solve the "problem". Fully custom installed. Like it was meant to be.
